Taking a walk

Jackson slept for about an hour this morning after my last post.   He had to wake up when they came in his room to do he Echo.   For some reason, I was thinking that they would be doing an ECG.   He always has both at his cardiologist appointments.    Anyway, he made it through most of it okay, but when they were looking at the place where his chest tube was removed (only hours before), he started to sob and try to swat us away.   I know it hurt when they were pushing down on his chest.   If it were only possible to take the pain away from him, I would.    A million times over, I would.

He was feeling upset and discouraged after that.   The cardiologist came in immediately after that, and told us that it looked like his blood count had gone up a little since yesterday, so we could hold off on the transfusion.   : )   Also, he wanted to be sure to watch him for another 24 hours and be sure he was up and moving really well, ... and we might be able to bring him home tomorrow!  HOORAY!

Anyway, we tried to convince Jackson to hop up and walk after that, but he was exhausted and weak and not feeling it.   Finally, we had the bright idea of asking if he wanted a wagon ride to the vending machine downstairs, and he actually got a little light in his eyes.   We loaded him up in the wagon, with his blanket, cat, and lightning mcqueen car, and took a walk.   Couldn't ever convince to him to get out and walk at all, but we also didn't push him very hard.   You know your child, and we could tell ours just wasn't going to do it - especially if we pushed too much.   So, back up to our floor, and walked by the playroom.   Turns out that a room full of toys is more convincing than two nagging parents.   He got out of the wagon (even leaving behind his cheetos from the vending machine), and walked right into the playroom.   He checked out lots of toys, and then we made a craft project - his favorite past time.    After he finished that he walked around some more, playing with all the toys.   Hasn't been very interested in movies or shows or anything really.   And even in the playroom, he is not exactly getting "excited" over anything.   But, we are just happy to see him up and moving.   Less than 48 hours after surgery!

After the playroom we WALKED back to our room, and ate some lunch.  This is the first time he really ate anything substantial.   After that we watched a little tv and showed off our craft project to the nurse.   Took some pain meds (now all orally), and have been napping for almost 1.5  hours.   Awesome.   I think with the calories and sleep, he's going to be getting some more color and energy.

Colin is off getting some chocolate for me (hehe) and getting out of the room for a while.   I am actually enjoying the quiet room (with Jackson's sound machine) and relaxing on the sofa.   This may be the most peaceful nap time I have had in a REALLY long time.   Just hope Charlie and Cooper are giving my mom and brother a break, too!.

Here he is in the playroom - itching his face.   Think the morphine wearing off has left him with an attack of the itchy face.   It doesn't appear to bother him, but it is driving me crazy!  : )

Playing with the pool table.
