We have basically made it through night one. It is so promising to think he will only improve from this point. He's resting right now (thank God) and so is sweet Colin. Colin spent most of the night on his feet, helping the nurse and keeping Jackson as calm as possible. I seemed to have quite the opposite effect on Jack. He would get more emotional and beg me for water. So I stayed back on the "couch" right behind him and tried to rest some.
At one point, JAckson said, "Daddy ... I just want my water cup and mommy won't let me have it!!!"

We had a little excitement when we realized he had somehow kicked his IV out of his foot and the bed was full of blood. By the time we got the sheets changed and everything cleaned up he was pretty flustered. So around 3:30 am he was able to have a few ice chips and that helped him alot. So have the little swabs we can wipe his mouth with to keep some moisture in it.
He's lying on his stomach right now which is almost painful to see - but he keeps wanting to roll over that way. The good news is that his pain must be managed very well for him to be lying directly on his chest that was just opened up hours ago.
There isn't a bathroom in the room, so I have been waddling down the hall - out of the ICU (actually CHSU - Congenital Heart Surgery Unit) to pee every hour or two.
His oxygen mask is off (as well as the little stent that was in his nostril holding the airway open ... can't remember what that was called ... a horn or something), and he is just using the little nose tubes now occasionally for oxygen. He looks very pale this morning, and dark circles under his eyes. Amazingly, he didn't have any blood transfused during surgery, and we will see how he looks today. He may end up needing some later.
Looking forward to more progress today. Can't wait to see him smile or hear his laugh.
Missing our other two little rascals and hoping that they are sleeping well for my mom and brother.
