We just word from the surgeon that Jackson was finished with surgery. They patched the hole. They did see that the valve was (like they thought) being pulled into that hole. His ventricle was enlarged (like they thought). He's off the bypass machine, and they just wheeled him from the OR to the Pediatric Congenital Heart ICU. We got to to see him for a second in the hallway. Anesthesiologist said that Jackson was breathing on his own, but he still has the breathing tube in to keep his airway open while he is still under so much anesthesia. Sweet boy. I wanted to jump into the hospital bed with him and hold him. The ICU has shift change at 7:00, and will be locked until 7:30. The nurse said they would try to get him settled and sneak us in before that (45 minutes) but wasn't they would have him settled yet. So, it might be after 7:30 before we can be by his side. I know that only one of us can stay tonight with him (hospital code)- so I am hoping that we can get there before much longer. Once he is out of the ICU in a couple of days and in a regular room, we can both stay at nighttime.
We won't know how much of a leak he has in his valve until we see the cardiologist again in 2 weeks, but it won't get any worse now with the VSD closed. And it could get better or go away completely. Either way the surgeon feels that it is a small leak.
The heart electrical system was not disturbed, so there will be no need for a pacemaker.
As I write this, the anesthesiologist just stuck his head in the waiting room and said that he is calm and the breathing tube is now out.
Please continue to lift JAckson up in prayer in this time. We are overwhelmed with relief. My heart rate has slowed down. Still a little nervous, just want to be near him. But overjoyed that our little boy is okay. He is okay!!!!!
I feel like such a horrible friend that I haven't checked the blog lately! However, I am SO glad that he is out of surgery and so far so good! Will keep you and your sweet family in our prayers! Give Jackson hugs and kisses from us!!!
